A brief introduction.

Hello, thank you for stopping by. I am a thirty-something married man with two young children whom are growing up much more rapidly than I would like. I am currently taking college course to finish out a Bachelor of Science in Information Systems. That being said, I have a strong Neo-Luddism streak in me. Oh, I don't eschew digital technology (I have an iPod and a Garmin Mapping GPS for hiking) but I don't fully embrace it either. This blog is definitely taking me out of my digital comfort zone.

I have started Occasional Hyker as a place to write down and share my experiences in the out-of-doors. Now, I am by no means an expert, but I have learned a bit about backpacking through the years. I will try to incorporate everything from trail reviews to cooking to GPS tips. If I can, I will post up gear reviews. Since I don't backpack often enough to be a real gear tester, I will probably link to reviews that I have found useful. I am also going to be posting about what I plan on doing in the future.

Again, thank you for taking time to read this blog. I hope you get something useful out of it. Please feel free to leave comments on posts, I will try to respond if I can.

Happy Trails,

Occasional Hyker.
